Led by Howard Procyshyn, an electrical engineer with diverse experience, our engineering team encompasses the structural, mechanical and electrical engineering capacity that is needed for the highly specialized and complex projects synonymous with Smith Carter around the world. Integrating engineering considerations early in the process and working side-by-side every day with all the disciplines involved in delivering a successful completed project ensures that architectural design works harmoniously with mechanical systems, specialized equipment and additional needs of our clients.

Engineering has been a core function of Smith Carter since the firm was established in 1947. Integrating engineering early in the architectural design of a project was the vision of the firm’s founders right from the start.

As a truly integrated firm with in-house expertise and specialty in projects in the Science and Technology, Security and Defence, Health Care and Urban Impact sectors, our team of structural, mechanical and electrical engineers provide expert level services to each of these areas.

Their critical contribution of problem solving, research, expertise and highly specialized knowledge is a cornerstone for the engineering of such projects as critical building mechanical systems such as air filtration and waste treatment for biological safety in laboratories, highly sophisticated electrical engineering for security, and life safety systems in defence and medical facilities, and structural design of high performance facilities. Our long history and positive relationships with leading organizations and institutions has allowed our team to have ongoing contact with building operators and the people who work in the facilities we’ve designed. This foundation adds to our research and knowledge base with critical ‘on the ground’ feedback.
