PRACTICE MANAGER

Location:  Ottawa

Smith Carter is seeking a Practice Manager with solid architectural design and technical experience to help continue the expansion and growth of our Ottawa office (currently 14 persons). Reporting to the Director of Security and Defence the Practice Manager is accountable for all day-to-day activities related to project oversight, office operations and staff development. The mandate of this position is to develop and manage a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary group of professionals with the specific range of expertise required to support the Security and Defence Business unit in Ottawa. This position will require a high degree of collaboration with various leaders in the Smith Carter Winnipeg Office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

> Oversee the daily operations of the Ottawa office and establish and schedule priorities on an overall basis
> Maintain the firm’s standards for quality on all work performed
> Organize, schedule the work and assign resources in collaboration with the Director of Resources
> Monitor all project performance (internal budget, quality of work, scope control, schedule control)
> Establish and maintain good communications, professionalism  and morale through the office
> Provide continued leadership on designated projects
> Align with HR on staffing, professional development and performance reviews for the Ottawa office
> Mentor and coach staff when required
> Participate in identifying and developing new service opportunities for the Business Unit
> Assist in maintaining long term client relationships with the Business Unit
> Participate in the development of revenue forecasts from business development activity

Qualifications:

Required:
> Professional degree in architecture and eligible for registration with the OAA.
> 10-15 years of project experience, preferably in the $10 to $50 million range.
> Demonstrated experience in the management of an architectural consulting services practice.
> Familiarity with a range of project delivery methodologies, including P3, Design Build and Design Bid Build.
> Holistic knowledge of design contract documentation, codes and standards, building/material science, specifications and construction techniques.
> PWGSC Security Clearance or equivalent will be required as a condition of employment.

Preferred:
> Experience working on high security institutional project types would be considered an asset.
> LEED AP.
> Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
> Bilingual in French and English an asset.
> Experience with QA/QC systems an asset.
> Defence Industrial Security Clearance Office security level (US Citizens).
