SC3 is an example of the multidisciplinary integration of architectural vision and engineering systems. The building accommodates the firm’s growing international business and demonstrates its innovative application of advanced technologies, materials and techniques that contribute to environmental responsibility, development of the firm’s human resource potential, and delivering a better product to the client. Smith Carter’s hallmark is that we are able to provide unique and innovative strategies for solving the design problems for our clients. The design for SC3 embodies this environment for innovation by the use of unique strategies that maximize the efficiencies of the new building. The building is extensively glazed to achieve the goal of improving productivity through views, daylighting and natural ventilation. Daylighting glare is controlled through automated blinds that are activated via an astrological clock that measures the angle of the sun. Natural ventilation is controlled through a Local Area Network (LAN) that automatically opens or closes the ground level and clerestory windows. The ongoing use of monitoring tools ensures the optimization of building systems through a variety of operating conditions.
