Scott Stirton CEO

Scott Stirton is the Chief Executive Officer of Smith Carter, leading the firm from its head offices in Winnipeg, Canada. Scott’s unlimited vision and passionate belief that the built environment can transform organizations, communities and positively enhance business models is balanced by a strong commitment to Smith Carter’s legacy as a “family” firm with strong Winnipeg roots.

Scott is recognized internationally as a specialist in the planning and design of specialized science and technology facilities. Scott’s project experience includes being a key member of the design team for The Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health in Winnipeg, as well as his current leadership responsibilities of select national and international science focused projects in Mexico City, Bishkek (Kyrgyz) and the United Kingdom.

Prior to being appointed as CEO in 2003, he was responsible for establishing and leading the Atlanta, Georgia office and positioning the firm as an international specialist in biocontainment design. Scott returned to Winnipeg as CEO in 2003 and led the firm through a restructuring process which has resulted in the doubling of the firm’s revenue and size.

Under Scott’s leadership, Smith Carter recently completed the new sustainable headquarters for Manitoba Hydro, and is currently working on the development of the Canadian Human Rights Museum at the Forks, a new heavy equipment transportation centre at Red River College, and the new Women’s Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre.

Prior to obtaining his Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba in 1987, Scott studied at the Chongquing Institute of Architecture and Engineering in China and at McGill University in Montreal. He lives in Winnipeg with his wife and children and spends free time playing hockey and enjoying the outdoors at his family cabin.
