Our Culture

Smith Carter is a unique place to work. As the face of the firm has changed in its 60-plus years, it has maintained a “family feel” with a strong sense of its roots. The family has grown and is now a large, extended group showing diversity in many ways. What started as a two-person ownership structure in the 1940s is now a sophisticated executive leadership and shareholder team of men and women from varied professional backgrounds.

The integrated nature of the firm’s organizational structure brings together people of many professional disciplines and supporting areas. Our work in many countries and the global recruitment of highly specialized experts has resulted in us assembling a wide mix of people from around the world from all age groups and interests. The result is a vibrant and dynamic environment of fun, discovery and dialogue.

Central to the firm’s culture is its integration of the disciplines and its market areas. The firm was founded on a vision of an integrated architectural and engineering approach which has remained constant ever since. Smith Carter’s core values of passion, accountability, collaboration and knowledge are the driving force for our operations and how we work together and with our clients. It is not uncommon for past clients to drop by our offices to say hello. When we work with them, they often tell us they feel Smith Carter team members become an extension of their organization.
